Roof, hood and partial wraps

A partial wrap changes one area: a gloss black roof, a satin hood, mirror caps, stripes or accents. It is the quickest way to change a car's look without wrapping the whole thing.

A gloss black roof makes the glass and roof read as one surface, which suits Teslas and most modern SUVs. Mirror caps and a black chrome delete go with it.

What changes roof and hood wrap prices

Roof size and rails are only part of car roof wrap prices. The film is the next factor: gloss black and satin black are the standard choices, while carbon-fiber texture and color-shift films cost more. Roof moldings and the shark-fin antenna have to be worked around or removed for a clean edge, which adds time. Doing several areas in one visit, like the roof, hood, mirror caps and a chrome delete, means one setup instead of several. Paint condition counts too, because film should not go over peeling clear coat. Send photos from the side and the front, and we will price it.

Black roof wrap: gloss, satin or carbon

The finish decides how a black roof wrap looks. Gloss black matches the piano-black trim on most modern cars and looks closest to a factory two-tone roof. Satin black is softer, suits cars with matte or satin trim and shows fewer wash marks. Carbon-fiber film adds texture and reads as sporty up close. On a white, silver or other light car, any black roof gives the floating-roof look that makes the car seem lower. On dark cars the change is subtler, so carbon texture or a contrast color is worth a look. Mirror caps and a chrome delete in the same black finish keep the look consistent from every angle.

Hood wraps and the Southern California sun

The hood faces the sun all day and takes engine heat from below, so it is the hardest place for any film to live. Expect a hood wrap to last several years, less than film on the doors, and park in a garage or shade when you can. A satin or matte black hood is a classic look and also cuts glare off the hood on bright days. If the hood already has faded or peeling clear coat, which is common on cars that live outside in SoCal, film sticks to the loose layer and can pull more of it off at removal. In that case, fix the paint first. If you want the hood paint protected rather than changed, clear PPF is the option.

Why partial wraps look best in contrast

Vinyl almost never matches factory paint exactly, because paint color varies by batch and fades with age. A body-color partial wrap next to real paint tends to look slightly off. That is why partials work best in a contrasting color or finish: black, carbon, satin, or a color that clearly differs from the body. Racing stripes, mirror caps, pillars, spoilers and hood accents all follow the same rule. Stripes are laid out and checked from the front and back before the film goes down, so they run straight. If you need a panel to match the body exactly, paint is the better route. If you want a contrast you can remove later, film is the easy choice, and it comes off before a lease return.
