Mercedes and G-Wagon wraps and PPF
Mercedes owners usually ask for one of three jobs: PPF to keep the paint perfect, a full color change, or an AMG chrome delete. The G-Class gets its own plan, because its boxy body, exposed hinges and add-on trim make it a different install from a sedan. Send photos and the model, and we price the exact work.
Studio illustrationThe G-Class is a different job
The G-Wagon looks simple: flat panels and square corners. Flat panels are easy to lay film on, but the G has a lot of hardware sitting on the body: exposed door hinges, turn signals on top of the front fenders, push-button door handles, wheel-arch flares and the spare wheel on the rear door. Each one has to be worked around, or removed and refitted, so the film edges are clean. That detail work, not the flat panels, is where the hours go. It is also why a G-Wagon wrap is quoted from photos of every side, not from a size chart.
Color PPF on a G-Wagon
Color PPF suits the G-Class well. The upright nose, the flat fender tops and the lower doors take chips even if the truck never leaves the city. Color PPF changes the color and stops those chips in one thicker, self-healing film. The G in the picture wears a satin olive color PPF from Inozetek. Satin and matte finishes are favorites here because they suit the boxy, military-born shape. If your G already has factory matte paint, matte PPF protects it without adding gloss.
AMG chrome delete
Many AMG and AMG Line cars have a bright grille, bright window trim and chrome accents in the bumpers. If your car has the Night Package, much of that is black already. A typical delete covers the window trim, the grille frame or slats, and the lower bumper accents in gloss or satin black. The big star in the grille is left uncovered, since on many models a driver-assist radar sits behind it. Trunk badges can go black, or come off if they are bonded with adhesive instead of pins.
PPF on sedans, coupes and SUVs
On a C-Class, E-Class or S-Class, full front PPF covers the panels that take most freeway chips. Long hoods, like the one on the AMG GT, are best done in one piece, so there is no seam across the middle. On the GLE and GLS, add the lower doors and the rear bumper's loading edge. Clear gloss keeps the paint looking new; matte PPF gives a satin finish over gloss paint. Parking sensors and cameras are trimmed around so they keep working. A ceramic coating on top makes the film easier to wash.
What sets the price, and what to expect
On a G-Class, the trim and hardware drive the time more than the size. On sedans and SUVs, it is size, coverage and film. Door jambs, chips that need attention first and old film that has to come off all add time. Most full wraps and full front PPF jobs take 1 to 2 days; full-body color PPF on a G can take longer. At pickup we walk the car with you. After that, hand wash, skip brush washes and keep pressure washer tips back from the edges.
Questions
How much does a G-Wagon wrap cost?
More than a sedan of similar size, because the hinges, flares, handles and spare wheel all need detail work. Vinyl costs less than color PPF, and door jambs add time. Send photos of all four sides and the year, and we price vinyl and color PPF side by side.
How much is PPF for a Mercedes in Los Angeles?
It depends on the model and the coverage. Full front on a C-Class is a smaller job than full body on a GLS or a G-Class. Matte film costs a little more than gloss. Text us the model, year and photos and we send exact prices for the coverage you want.
How much is an AMG chrome delete?
It depends on how many pieces are bright. A car with the Night Package may need only the badges and a few accents, while a car with full chrome trim needs the windows, grille and bumper pieces done. Send photos of the front, side and rear, and we price exactly what you want covered.
Is color PPF better than vinyl on a G-Class?
If you plan to keep the truck and want the paint protected, usually yes. Color PPF is thicker, heals light scratches with heat and stops rock chips. Vinyl costs less and comes in more colors and finishes. We show you samples of both on the truck before you decide.
