What a chrome delete covers
A chrome delete covers bright trim in gloss black, satin black or a color that matches a wrap. Most jobs start with the window trim: the strips around the side windows and along the tops of the doors. From there you can add the grille surround or slats, front and rear badges, lower bumper trim, mirror caps, door handles, roof rails and exhaust tips where the heat allows. Each extra piece adds time, which is why quotes are built piece by piece. The more chrome a car has from the factory, the more the full job costs.
Film, paint or powder coat
Film is the usual choice for trim. It costs the least, it goes on without removing most parts, and it comes off if you want the chrome back. That makes it the safe pick for a leased car. Painting chrome trim is permanent, and paint does not stick to chrome without careful prep, so it is usually done with the parts off the car. Powder coat is baked on in an oven, so it only suits metal parts that can be removed, such as some truck bumpers and wheels. Plastic trim with a chrome finish usually cannot take that heat.
Cost by vehicle type
Sedans and coupes with only window trim are the classic low-end job. Teslas built before late 2020, when the Model 3 and Model Y moved to black trim, have chrome window surrounds that make a quick delete. Luxury sedans and SUVs often add a bright grille and bumper inserts, which pushes the price toward the middle. Full-size trucks sit at the top. A chrome grille, chrome bumpers and chrome mirror caps are big, curved pieces, and the bumpers also take stone hits. Some truck owners wrap the grille and trim, then powder coat or swap the bumpers instead.
How long a chrome delete lasts
Quality film on trim lasts several years. How long depends on where each piece sits. Vertical trim, like the pillars and the grille, ages slowest. Horizontal pieces that face the sky, such as the trim along the tops of the doors and the roof rails, take direct sun all day and wear out first. Edges are the weak point on every piece, so prep and tucking matter more than the film's color. Hand washing helps. Brush car washes and pressure washers aimed at the edges shorten the film's life. When one piece fades, it can be redone on its own.
How to compare quotes
Ask each shop to list the exact pieces covered, the film and finish, and whether edges are wrapped around the trim or cut on its face. Ask whether badges get wrapped or removed. Check that the quote covers both sides of the car, plus the rear window trim if your car has it. A low price that skips the grille or the door handles is not the same job. Send clear photos of the front, both sides and the rear, and say whether you want gloss or satin. That is enough for an exact quote from us.
